BAUHAUS ARCHIVE EXTENSION
The competition brief for the extension of the ‘Bauhaus-Archiv Museum für Gestaltung’ in Berlin ( Walter Gropius, 1964 ) concerned an 800 sqm exhibition space for permanent exhibitions, The program consists of a 400 sqm exhibition space, a museum shop, a café and supporting spaces. The proposed exhibition spaces are mainly underground except for the shell-shaped roof structure of the café that opens towards the museum square. The lower lying spaces are connected to each other by a complex circulation element. The central geometry is formed by several connecting strips, the structural core of the building oscillates below and above the landscape level.
